It’s 4am and she wakes me again
No alarm clock needed for this early morning call
She fills my empty bed with her presence
Settling herself in the unfilled space between my arms
Inviting my embrace.
I feel her hair on my cheek
Her body pressing into mine
The curve of her back nested against my chest and stomach
And the skin of her shoulder brushing my lips.
I kiss her then
And the spell is broken
She is gone,
And I am alone again with my loss
Sleepless in the pale light of another empty dawn.
